My interest in hihi began with my MSc research, which was focused around the reintroduction of hihi from Tiritiri Matangi Island to a mainland site in Auckland's Waitakere Ranges in 2007. Carrying out the post-release monitoring subsequent to this translocation sparked my interest in dispersal behaviour, and it's relevance to mainland reintroductions - both in the immediate post-release phase and through ongoing dispersal of both adults and juveniles. Prior to this I had completed a BSc (Biology) at the University of Waikato, and a PGDipSci (Environmental Science) at the University of Auckland.
My PhD is focused on the individual and environmental factors influencing both natal and post-release dispersal in hihi, and on determining the short- and long-term effects of the translocation procedures associated with mainland reintroductions.
